Birthday card/new technique

My oldest granddaughter celebrated her 7th birthday a few weeks back.  Of course, as most of us know it's all about the gifts and not so much the card.  Although, she does enjoy making cards w/me so I thought I would try out a new technique to see if it worked.  Plus, I thought she would really enjoy it.

I had seen a couple of tutorials on scratch n sniff cards/images.  So I thought, why not make a cupcake and make the frosting 'chocolate' scented.  So I went out on You Tube and found a 'recipe' for making scents.
You basically use any sugar-free product like Kool-Aid, Jell-O or drink mix (Crystal Light).  They had suggested mixing it 3 parts clear embossing powder to 1 part sugar-free mix.  It had said it was better to error on the side of caution, then not to have all of your mix 'melt'.  Again, this is why it has to be sugar-free - so as to melt w/the clear embossing powder.  I had picked up a cheap store brand chocolate pudding and gave it a try.  I put my mix into a cup and mixed it up really good.

I had cut out the 'frosting' of the cupcake on my Cricut w/brown cardstock.  Then inked it up w/Versamark, and then put on the mixed embossing powder.  Making sure to coat it really good.  Tapped of the excess, and used my heat gun and TA-DA.....a chocolate scented cupcake.

Here it is:

I had her scratch it and tell me what it smelled like.  She was like "Grandma, it smells like chocolate....yum".  Now I can't wait to try other flavors :)

I had fun and I hope you will try it and see what you think!!

I'm so excited!!!

My girlfriend recently attend a scrapbooking expo and told me about a great new company. The company's name is Raisin Boat, and they are located in my home state of WI in Waunakee which is near Madison.

Bobbi Lemanski and Kim Ziehr of Raisin Boat, are avid cardmakers and scrapbookers who could never get enough stamps to satisfy their love for the hobby. And I TOTALLY agree with them!! So, they have the very first company to offer easy online stamp rental. As my girlfriend described it to me "It's like Netflix, but with stamps"! You choose the membership plan you like, create your pick list and let the creativity begin once you have get your set in the mail.

I'm not sure about you, but I have always seen sets in the stores and thought "Oh this would be cute, but I would probably only ever use it once". And we all know we hate to make that commitment.  This is where renting from Raisin Boat comes in so handy!! Get your set in the mail, create, and send it back and get your next set....so simple!

Here is my first card using the "Undies in a Bunch" set.

I stamped the 'underwear' onto some DP and then carefully cut each of them out. Then stamped the clothes line onto my paper and "hung my underwear" on the line....lol  : ) I had so much fun creating this card. I can't wait to get my next set!!

I hope you will go and check them out over at Raisin Boat. It's a really neat site!

Scrapfest 12'

A couple of weeks back, my girlfriends and I went to the Mall of America in Minnesota for Archivers annual Scrapfest.  We look forward to this time every year to learn new techniques and see new products, but most of all - scrap and have a great girls weekend!!!

One of the classes we took was called "Cute Cards in a Snap" offered thru Archivers themselves. Below is a copy of the flyer that was handed out in our class.
Each of the classes we took last approx. 45 to 50 min, but of course you can never get all of your projects completed.  The idea is to give to the basics of a new idea or technique, or get a chance to learn how to use a new product. We usually end up going back to our hotel room that night and finish up the rest of our stuff.

This is my take on the project.  Of course they tell us we don't have to follow the directions word per word - we can always take our "own spin" on it if we would like.  Here are mine:

I switched the direction of the 'banners' on a couple of them, as well as the size of the banner too. Recently at work, I was asked to make a card for a fellow co-worker that had cancer, went into remission and recently, had found out that the cancer had come back.

I really liked the design and layout of the card we had created in class,
so I created a "Thinking of You" card.
As always - my girlfriends and I had an AWESOME time and I love all the new ideas and techniques I came back with. Hope you enjoyed them too : )

See you again real soon!!

You Rule!!!!

I recently purchased a set of stamps from Paper and Such called "Bitty Love".  I just thought this would be a cute set to have around for making lil cards for my granddaughters. My oldest Evyon will be 7 in a few short weeks and is in 1st grade. OH MY....where did that time go : )  And my youngest, Isabella is 2-1/2.

I stamped the "You Rule" on both white & yellow cardstock.  I then cut out the ruler on the yellow & paper pieced it onto the white to make it look more like an actual ruler.  I thought I would send this to Evyon as a little surprise ~ "How is school going....you rule".  Then I punched some stars out of shimmer and glittered paper to match my background paper.  Just a real cute and simple little card!

Hope you like it!!!

Monthly Reveal

It's that time again at D2D...monthly reveal day. Faith has come out with a few new fall & winter images that I am sure you will just LOVE. Plus, some of the gals will be 'revisting' some her older fall & winter images as well.

I decided to use 2 of her new images. For my 1st image, I used "Reach for the Stars Snowman" and created a tag.  I'm always so focused on creating cards, that I don't think about making tags for gifts. And I thought this image would be perfect for that purpose. And I am also always doing my images on white cardstock and I have seen so many people do the images on kraft paper. So, I printed my image on the kraft cardstock, colored the stars w/my atyou Spica markers for some shimmer. Then my Memento markers were used to colors the scarf and nose. A little Stickles for the snow, a piece of green cardstock folded in half, punched a hole and ran my ribbon thru and TA DA!! Easy peasy : )

For my 2nd image I used "Fall Mailbox". Fall is my FAVORITE time of year with all the changing colors & cooler weather. Again I wanted to keep it simple but yet use alot of those wonderful colors we associate with fall. I also used a new Spellbinder die that I recently purchased and absolutely LOVE it!

Well, I hope you have a chance to check out the other DT creations as well! They have some awesome creations and inspiration for you all.
Thanks so much for blog hoppin' with D2D! Remember, all New Release Digital Stamps will be on SALE until August 23. Details HERE.

Fish tales

My father-in-laws birthday is coming up soon, so I created this card w/him in mind. He really likes to fish, so I used an image from Prairie Fairy Stamps called "Fisherman Lewis".

I LOVE that he comes both colored and uncolored.  It saves alot of time when trying to do cards from time to time. I just added some Glossy Accents on his glasses and some 'shimmer' to the water w/my Gelly Roll Clear Star pen. I wanted to make it look like he 'flipped' the line out onto the card.  So, I strung twine from the bottom of the pic, up and back around and finished it off with some actual spinning lures.

I forgot to take a pic of the inside, but I wrote ~ Tell all the fish tales you want, it's your special day. I really hope he likes it  : )

Fun with letters !!

I was at the craft store awhile back with my oldest granddaughter. It was fun and trying at the same time. She's 6 and full of energy and of course ideas!!  At the time, her room was getting painted one of hers and my favorite colors ~ purple!  While rummage thru the 60-80% off clearance aisle, she came across a letter E. Well of course she said "Grandma, that's what my name starts with E for Evyon".  And I said yes, and she proceeded to tell me that this would be nice in her room on her wall. And I said "Well, lets looks around for more ideas and see what we come up with".

In the meantime, she found a leopard pattern 'trinket' box marked down to $5.  And a cute little lamp that was originally $24.99, marked down to $4. She said we should get it so her little sister Isabella wouldn't be afraid of the dark when she goes to bed. How cute!! Such a great big sister : )

Well, we found another E and this one I told her Grandma could decorate for her. It's just one of those thin unfinished wooden letters that you can decorate however you want.  So now of course I had to get an I for Isabella too. Evyon wanted hers done in purple, and said I should do Isabella's in green.

So, I bought some acrylic paints and painted my edges.  Sprayed w/some Elmers Spray Adhesive, and glue some scrapbook paper on there.  Distressed the edges a little, blinged it up and TA-DA my finished project.

I dropped them off last week, but the girls were by their mother so.  I get to see her this weekend and can't wait to see whats she says about her altered letter that I made for her : )

Toodles for now

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE.....

It's that time of the month again - REVEAL DAY!! It's our "Bird Brain" Blog hop!
Make sure you hop on over to D2D and check it out.

My first card image is called Birdbath Chick and I just couldn't wait to use it.  It's been so hot here by us in the Midwest and along with our recent drought, I have been filling & cleaning our birdbath constantly, as the birds are always looking for a cool drink : ) These last couple of days we have FINALLY managed to get some rain and things look a tad better, but we could for sure use more rain!

Anyway, I wanted to keep this card real simple, so I just started off by stamping just the bottom half of the kardstock w/a background stamp. I then cut a 1-1/2" piece of DP and punched 1 edge w/a border punch. Then put my image on top of that and then just had to finish it off by doing the bubbles w/some Stickles!

Below is a little better view of all the wonderful Stickles
For my 2nd card I used Martini Chicks. I just LOVE this image!! It is just to flippen cute! I just love how she did the birds eyes. He looks kind of 'whacky' and out of sorts if you will. So I wanted to make a card that was kind of the same way.  I wanted to use brighter colors and mix up my patterns.  I know there are some scrappers out there that go "NO...you don't mix stripes & circles together", but I thought this image begged for that! I used a little Glossy Accents on his eyes to give him that 'glazed' look.
Well.....I hope you enjoyed my creations. Don't forget ~ we will be having a challenge again this month. Our readers will be invited to use the color scheme from one of the designer's cards from the blog hop. You will then have two weeks to enter, and Faith will select a winner or two from the challenge.

CONGRATS!! You did it

Yep....it's time for all those graduation parties once again!  Last year, I was asked by a co-worker to make some graduation cards. She had see a previous card I had made, and wanted the card based off of that design.  And she loved how I incorporated the school mascot into the card.

This year - another co-work asked if I could make a card for her nephew.  And it so happen that he graduated from my alma mater!!  I couldn't wait to make this card. Our school mascot is a Raider and the school colors are Purple and Gold.  A few years back, sadly my school was torn down.  Maintenance for the upkeep on the old school built I think way back in the 1920's or 30's was way to expensive. And the mascot got an 'upgrade' as well. And being that this card was for a boy, I thought the Raiders on the front was perfect.
I used Versamark and stamped graduation caps on the purple paper. Bascially creating my own DP. It was just enough to make it 'pop', but not over the top.

Well, have to run. More projects to get going on !!

Happy Father's Day

Wishing all the dads, step-dads, grandpas and great-grandpas a wonderful Father's Day!!! I am blessed not only to have a wonderful father, but a great father-in-law and a step father-in-law.

I was able to get together with a couple of wonderful friends the other day and do some scrapping.  We don't get to see each other as much now that it's summer and we are all so busy.  And one of my friends happens to be on the Paper and Such design team.  She had a few stamps along, and I really like the Deer Dad set. I made this card for my step father-in-law I guess you would say.  He loves to fish and hunt and this deer just reminded my of him.

I wanted to stay with earthy tones, so I started w/kraft paper for the base of the card, and worked w/greens & browns.  The background of the stamped image kind of happened by accident.  When running the die thru the Cuttlebug, it didn't cut just right and actually left this 'layered' impression I guess you could say.  It turned out kinda of nice for a mistake! And I like the 'wood' background of the DP I used from DCWV's The Green Stack 70% recycled paper stack. And of course, men are not really into bows and bling, so I went w/a zig zag ribbon and twine from Jillibean Soup and added a button and some pearl like bling to the bottom.

I hope he likes it !!

Don't forget to come back on the 20th of the month to catch the new releases from Faith @ D2D!!  See you back then!

Going to the chapel......

and were gonna get married!! Summer usual means weddings and that's what I have for you today.  Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. My husband & son race stock cars on the weekends and we were having some issues with the car, but now I think we have things back in working order!!  I am usual the 'parts' runner - driving all over town to find the parts needed to get them up and running again  : )

I was asked by a co-worker/friend to make a wedding card.  I just love this stamp by Stampendous - Happy Couple. It's so simple, but can be elegant at the same time.

I used a pale peach color just to make her dress 'pop' a bit. Sprayed a few paper roses I had w/some glimmer mist and there you have it. I really like these colors together.  With just that little bit of red to make it make it come alive.  I hope she likes it!!

Don't forget - I will be back on the 20th for the Monthly Reveal from D2D. Faith has some awesome images as always and you don't want to miss it! See you then  : )

My dad was in the Navy & Coast Guard, and it seems we were always around lighthouses.  My dad LOVES lighthouses, and I think the older I get, I am really starting to appreciate them as well.  So, I obviously choose Lighthouse as one of my images!!
My dad has always tried to teach me how to tie knots.  So I thought that would be a nice touch instead of a ribbon or flower on this card.  I didn't have any rope, so the square knot isn't quite as nice - but you get the point.

For my next card, I used Monkey Around.  He is just too darn cute!!!!! I immediately saw browns and green when I started doing this card.

This is a very versatile image that can be used in so many ways!  Birthday, miss you, hang in there!!  The DP I used on this is from DCWV's Green Stack, which is 70% recycled paper.  It's a little hard to see, but there are vines running thru it and I thought it would be great for this card.

Well........onto our next stop Debbie~Live Life Loud

Happy Mother's Day !!

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day ~ I did!!  My parents stopped, along w/my son and his 2 daughters today and we just hung around, had some fun, cooked out on the grill, and went for a short walk.  And to top it off, the weather was just beautiful - 72 and mostly sunny - PERFECT!!

Here is the card I created for my mother:

She LOVED it!!! I used my new Sizzix Hero Arts stamp & die-cut set.  All together is has 3 different flowers, a ladybug and a bee.  For the sentiment, I just "whipped' up something on the computer in Word, added some bling and there you have it!  I really like the way it turned out.

Happy Birthday

This past Sunday, a co-worker/friend was celebrating her 50th birthday!!  She had also been off of work for 2 weeks due to a knee surgery.  When she came back to work on Monday, we all dressed in black and totally decorated our office space w/awesome 50th and 'senior' moment decorations.  My boss and her are very close friends and asked if I could make a card for her birthday.  I said sure....why not!  I wanted it to be 'cheery' and upbeat especially after her surgery.

I had recently bought this Stampin Up set ~ Sassy Suzie ~ off of Craigslist and couldn't wait to use it! She thought it was awesome!!!

Showers.....and not the weather kind

Hi everyone -

Well, it's getting to be that time of year again!! Wedding showers are in 'full swing' now that the spring and summer are getting closer.  I just happen to have 2 in the same weekend.  My best friends daughter is getting married and the girl I made the invites and decorations for in a previous post as well.

I saw this image in my head of how I wanted to create the card.  I wanted it to be a silhouette of the wedding gown, on a colored background.  I tried to get as close to each of the girls wedding colors as I could.  I wanted it to be simple, but yet fun card.

Jenny - the girl I work with is getting married in Florida and basically has a beach theme. A light blue, sand and white color scheme.  I made her card a 5 x 7 as there going to be quite a few of us at work to sign it.

Liz - her colors are lime green, black and white.  Well, when I tried it w/a lime green I really didn't like the look.  So I went with a 'softer' green, with the lime green behind that.

I didn't use any templates or anything.  I ran a white piece of cardstock thru the Cuttlebug, using the Divine Swirls folder, then cut 2 triangles the same size.  Then punched the 'bigger' end with a scalloped border punch. I cut a smaller triangle for the top of the dress.  I spritzed it all w/Maya Mist Iridescent Pearl.  I just LOVE that stuff!!  I used the Polka Dots folder for the background.  Once dry, I layered the 2 triangles on top of each other and used pop dots to raised the one layer.  Put the smaller triangle on top and added a bow to the back of the dress.

The girls at Liz's party just loved it, and I can't wait to see what Jenny says tomorrow about hers!

Well, gotta run for now.  Take care

March 20th Reveal

Welcome back for our D2D monthly reveal!! Glad you could join us!

Faith has once again amazed us with her images.  You really need to check them out!! Again, we will be hopping from blog to blog to see what all of our great designers have done using the new images.

You should have come here from Kathy's blog

If not ~ please start back at the beginning so you don't miss anything.

1. Blog hop starts on designed2delight.com/blog
2. Debbie
3. Pat
4. Peggy
5. Kathy
6. Michelle H. ~ ME
7. Michelle P.
Here are my selections:

I went with "Old Rugged Cross" as one of my images.  I tried to keep the card simple in both colors and embellishments as to not 'take away' the symbolization of the cross. I know spring usually calls for bright cheery colors, but for some reason, the earth tones were 'calling' me if you will when I designed this card.

For my second image, I used "Drenched".  Isn't she just adorable!!!  Kind of reminds me of my oldest granddaughter. I could so see her posing for a picture like this : ) Now I used the bright, cheery colors on this one as I just wanted to make it 'scream' spring! I love the butterfly punch that I used on here.  It is actually a 3 layer punch by EK Success.  Each layer only punches out a certain part of the butterfly, in order for you to create your own color pattern.

Well, enough about me - let's get on over to the other Michelle on our team and she what she has for us, shall we !!

At the end of the hop, make your way back to the D2D blog and leave a comment telling Faith what types of images you would like to see for future summer releases . She will select 2 random winners, and give them each $5 to the store. Winners will be announced on Friday. ALSO, I'll be giving away a free image for a winner from my blog as will each team member. There will also be a 20% discount on the new images for the next three days.

Good Luck!!
Michelle

Shower 'stuff'

One of the gals I work with is getting married in a few weeks.  They are going to FL for their ceremony and then having a 'reception' back home here later in the summer.

Now Jenny is not a frilly and get all gussied up kind of gal.  She a no-nonsense easy going person, who doesn't like to be fussed over.  So my co-workers and I thought we would throw her a lil' shower at work.  Nothing fancy, but our way of saying were happy for you.

My contribution to the shower is the invites and the decorations.  She is having a beach theme, so that is what I tried to center everything around.  And said the blue that I used for the invites is almost dead on for what she has for her stuff. Some of her flowers are lilies and hydrangeas, so I tried to work those in as well. And while shopping @ Michaels, I found a few beach inspired items that I thought would work well for the shower. Again, nothing fancy but thought really turned out nicely.

Hope she enjoys the shower!!

Masculine card

This digi is from Prairie Fairy Designs and is titled "Fisherman Lewis".  Isn't he just too darn cute fishing for his 'big' catch of the day!!!  I thought this would be a great card for my father-in-law who just LOVES to fish.

I just love that I can already get him colored - which saves me a bunch of time!! Plus, I don't know if I could ever make him look as good! The only thing I did was add some Glossy Accents to his eyeglasses, and took my Gelly Roll Clear Star glitter pen to the water to give it a lil shimmer. And I thought the 'Wish Big' sentiment worked perfectly for this as well.  Can't wait to see what he says : )

Love and Peace

~*Happiness*~

First of all, I want to say that I won the weekly challenge over at Sweet Stamps ~ YAY ME!!!! I was so excited when I got the news!!   See the post below this one for my entry.

I also wanted to share a few quick pictures of a few things I made for Valentine's day.  I know that has long come and gone ~ but I just didn't get a chance to post them back then.  First, I want to share a card I made for an AWESOME girlfriend of mine who has taught me SO much.
I fell in love w/this Whipper Snapper stamp (Yin & Yang) when I saw it at Archivers!!!  I just had to get it. I did a 'happy' dance when I finished coloring this one. I amazed myself at how it turned out !!  I am still fairly new at the colored pencils and Gamsol thing - but loving it more everyday!

My next lil project was for my BFF/Scrapping buddies!!  We always give each other lil treats and stuff and I thought this was such a cute idea!

Well....toodles for now : )

BINGO

That's the challenge this week at Sweet Stamps!

BINGO

All you need to do is pick one line on the card (either horizontally, vertically or diagonally) and use those items/techniques on your entry. If you want, you can even choose an X or + pattern.

I choose to do Dry Embossing, Ribbon and Paper Piecing.

I used Embroidery Rose 7047 by Sweet Stamps, colored it w/colored pencils and gamsol.  Then created another one of the same w/the same colors and only cut out certain pieces to pop up on the paper.  I dry embossed only about 3/4 of the card itself w/my Cuttlebug Polka Dots folder.  Picked out an accent colored to coordinate with my DP and punched it using EK Success Arch Scallop punch. Added some ribbon and created my own stick pin.

Hope you like it !!

Til next time~
Michelle
